Rendering Gender... Art Exhibition

Rendering Gender... Art Exhibition

Thursday 25 June 2009

From 25th June 2009 until 22nd August 2009, Balcony 1 at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) in Glasgow is home to 'Rendering Gender...' a free exhibition created by transgender people in a series of intensive workshops led by artist David Sherry.

Scottish society too often renders gender diversity invisible and unacceptable. Transphobic hate crime, family rejection and employment discrimination brutally repress the open expression of gender variance. By using a palette far greater than simply pink or blue to express gender, this exhibiton seeks to expand recognition of transgender equality and rights. It uses a variety of mediums to explore our painful experiences and celebrate the resilient survival of our self-identities and wry sense of humour.

The exhibition is the result of a unique collaboration between GoMA and the Equality Network's Scottish Transgender Alliance Project.
