House of Commons Equality Bill Report Stage (2/12/09)

The Report Stage of the Equality Bill in the House of Commons took place on Wednesday 2nd December 2009. The Liberal Democrats had tabled two amendments relating to transgender equality - one to widen the protected characteristic from 'gender reassignment' to 'gender identity' and one to provide protection from homophobic and transphobic harassment in school education. However, the UK Government restricted the time for the Report Stage debate to a single afternoon and consequently the debate ran out of time before either of these amendments could be voted upon.
