Proudly Trans Exhibition

Madam Jholerina Brina TimboTo mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), the Scottish Transgender Alliance and Equality Network are proud to invite you to this unique one day exhibition of two exciting bodies of work: Proudly African and Trangender and Proudly Trans in Turkey.

These powerful portraits and narratives of trans activists in Africa and Turkey were created by artist and feminist activist Gabrielle Le Roux in collaboration with the individuals featured.

Gabrielle Le Roux will be in attendance and there will be a variety of workshops exploring the themes of the artwork throughout the day.

Event Programme:

12pm Exhibition opens to the public
12pm Proudly Ourselves Creative Portraits Workshop (Seminar Room)This fun workshop will enable you to turn a simple ‘selfie’ photo into a creative artwork exploring and celebrating your identity as an LGBTI person living in Scotland. All art materials provided. No previous drawing experience required.
12:30pm Guided tour by the artist
1:30pm International LGBTI Activism Discussion (Seminar Room)An exploration of LGBTI equality around the world and the similarities and differences with our experiences in Scotland. Find out how LGBTI activists are working together at a global level and ways you can get involved.
2:30pm Guided tour by the artist
3pm Screening of short films by trans sex workers in Turkey (Seminar Room)Despite facing the worst trans murder rates in Europe, trans sex workers in Turkey remain defiant, articulate and proactive in campaigning for their human rights. Come and hear their perspectives in their own words. 
4pm Exhibition closes to the public


The exhibition is open free to the general public from 12pm to 4pm and the free workshops are open to all LGBTI people and allies. The venue is fully accessible.

If you wish to attend the workshops or the guided tours, then you may wish to book in advance as places are limited. Advance booking is optional not essential.
