Focus group for trans women on sexist and sexual harassment in the workplace

Engender is Scotland’s feminist policy and advocacy organisation, working for women’s equality in all areas of life.

Engender is trying to find out how we can prevent sexual and sexist harassment in workplaces and other spaces and improve outcomes for victim-survivors. We know that experiences of sexism and unwanted sexual attention are very common and frequently normalised for women, and that women are not always confident that their employers will deal with incidents or stop them happening in the first place.

Engender is conducting some research on employer responses to sexual and sexist harassment in order to find out what needs to change. To make sure trans women’s voices are included in the research, we are working with Scottish Trans Alliance to bring together a virtual discussion group of around five trans women who have experienced or witnessed harassment.

The session will be hosted Scottish Trans Alliance over Zoom on Wednesday, 12th January 2022 at 6.00pm. The facilitator and the scribe will both be trans women. The session will discuss:

We would not expect you to talk in detail about any actual experiences of harassment and anything you tell us will be anonymised. There will be a transcriber present and a facilitator who will guide the conversation.

If you would like to be involved or have any questions, please contact Engender’s Policy and Parliamentary Manager, Eilidh Dickson on eilidh.dickson@engender.ork.uk

Please let us know if you want to come along and if you have any communication or other access requirements, for example a BSL interpreter, by 10th January 2022.

We will provide a £20 voucher to thank you for your time and input and will keep you updated with the final outputs and policy recommendations of this work.

You can find out more about this work in a blog post here.

If you would like to talk to someone from Scottish Trans Alliance about this event you can contact Vic Valentine, on vic@equality-network.org

We will likely be unable to reply over the festive break, but we will be in touch with you between the 10th January and the 12th January with details including participant information forms and the link to join the zoom meeting.
