Scottish Government funded project outcomes

Scottish Trans is currently funded by the Scottish Government via their Equality and Human Rights fund.

The work that we are funded to do by the Scottish Government includes trans equality policy work, trans community engagement and development, including connecting trans people directly to decision-makers, and publishing research and providing accurate information about trans people’s lives and our equality and human rights.

Policy

Provide information and advice to Scottish and UK Government officials, MSPs, MPs and other national policy influencers, public bodies, service providers and employers about trans people’s equality and human rights.

Some of the activities we do as part of our policy work include:

  • Responding to Government consultations
  • Attending equality meetings with public bodies
  • Providing advice and expertise to service providers and employers on trans people’s equality and human rights
  • Providing briefings to MSPs and MPs on legislation that will effect trans people’s equality and human rights

Community engagement & development

Work with trans people and communities to inform our policy work, provide skills training sessions to improve trans people’s confidence in doing things that matter to them, and facilitate direct engagement between trans people and decision makers

Some of the activities we do as part of our community engagement & development work include:

  • Organising an annual national conference, bringing together trans people, our friends, families and allies, policy makers, service providers and others to share knowledge, skills and to work together to improve trans equality
  • Delivering skills development training sessions for trans people interested in doing equality work
  • Running consultation events and online surveys to enable trans people to shape our future trans equality work
  • Supporting the annual Trans Pride Scotland event
  • Facilitating trans people to engage directly with decision-makers, through organising roundtables, inviting Ministers, MSPS and Scottish Government officials to our events, and supporting trans people to engage directly with Scottish Government consultations, their MSPS, and the Scottish Parliament

Publishing research and providing accurate information

We want to make sure that there is increased evidence, knowledge and understanding of trans people’s lives in Scotland, and that trans people understand what our current rights are

Some of the activities we do as part of our work to improve evidence, knowledge and understanding include:

  • Conducting surveys about trans people’s experiences, and publishing research reports and guidance for service providers and employers about what we learn
  • Providing information via our website and social media about trans people’s equality and human rights, and any potential changes that may be happening
  • Creating short films about trans equality issues
  • Supporting trans people to use creative methods to increase our visibility, and improve understanding of our lives
  • Proactively publicly speaking up for trans equality
  • Responding to media enquiries
